A historical term from the Middle Ages. It is also called miyo-oya. In the late Middle Ages, with the collapse of manors, it refers to a person who was responsible for the honenkin and public duties (honyaku) that were called kubo nenko. Miyo was originally a unit of taxation for manors and was organized as a collection of certain pieces of cultivated land, but around the 16th century, as in "This field is given to us by the head of the Jiroemon family as a free field, and there is no small honyaku" (December 26, 1254, Oka no Ama joint sale ticket), the rights to the cultivated land under miyo-oya in the area were actively bought and sold, and land was concentrated in the hands of a certain class of landowners.
