Miyayama Kofun

Japanese: 宮山古墳 - みややまこふん

There are ancient tombs called Miyayama in various places, and many of them are named because they are located behind the shrine of a local deity. The Himeji Miyayama Tomb (Hyogo Prefecture) and Muro Miyayama Tomb (Nara Prefecture) are famous.
[Himeji Miyayama Tomb]
A circular tomb from the late 5th century located in Sakamoto, Shigo-cho, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is located at the tip of a ridge extending from a mountain hill on the east bank of the Ichikawa River at an altitude of 35m, and is about 30m in diameter, surrounded by a row of cylindrical haniwa clay figures. The tomb was excavated twice in 1969 and 1972, and the existence of three pit-type stone chambers with their long axes running east to west was discovered.

宮山と呼ぶ古墳は各地にあり，氏神の社の背後に位置することによって生じた名称であることが多い。姫路宮山古墳(兵庫県)，室（むろ）宮山古墳(奈良県)などは有名である。
［姫路宮山古墳］
　兵庫県姫路市四郷町坂元にある5世紀後葉の円墳。市川東岸の山丘からのびた尾根の標高35mの突端に位置し，径約30mあって円筒埴輪列をめぐらす。1969年および72年にかさねて採土地となり，東西に長軸をおく竪穴式石室3個の存在が判明した。
