…While he was a student, he composed “Song of the Seaside” (lyrics by Hayashi Kokei) and studied under Yamada Kosaku for a time. He was appointed as a teacher at Saga Prefectural Normal School, but returned to Tokyo with the aim of becoming a composer. Inspired by the children’s song movement in the magazine “Akai Tori,” he published “Kanari-ya” (lyrics by Saijo Yaso) in the magazine’s May 1919 issue.
