Rafflesia - Rafflesia

A species of the Miaea genus (APG classification: Miaea genus, Miaea) of the Miaea family. It was discovered by Stanford Rafflesia in 1818. It is known as the world's largest flower, with a flower diameter of about 1 meter and a weight of 7 kg. It rarely grows wild in the jungles of Sumatra and Java. It parasitizes plants of the Cissus genus of the Vitaceae family, and its roots enter the host in the form of mycelium, producing only the flowers above ground. Dioecious flowers. The flowers are succulent and have five petals. The petals are yellowish red with scattered oval spots. The center of the flower has a hemispherical, cup-shaped flower tube, and at the bottom of the tube is a disk with sharp protrusions. It takes more than a month from bud to flowering, and once it opens, it rots within 2 to 3 days. The flowers give off a foul odor.

ヤッコソウ（ラフレシア）科ヤッコソウ属（APG分類：ラフレシア科ラフレシア属）中の1種。1818年スタンフォード・ラッフルズが発見した。花径が1メートル内外、重さ7キログラムになる世界最大の花として知られる。スマトラ、ジャワなどのジャングルにまれに自生する。ブドウ科シッサス属の植物に寄生し、根が菌糸状に寄主に入り、花だけを地上に出す。雌雄異花。花は5弁で多肉質である。花弁は黄赤色で、楕円(だえん)形の斑紋(はんもん)が散在する。花の中心には半球形椀(わん)状の花筒部があり、その底に鋭い突起物の盤状体がある。つぼみから開花まで1か月以上かかり、開くと2～3日で腐る。花は悪臭を放つ。
