…The ruined Gniezno was abandoned, and the Polish monarchs established their residence in Kraków. His son Bolesław II the Magnificent (Śmiały, c. 1042-81) regained the throne in the Investiture Controversy between German King Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII (1076), but the rise of the powerful clans was already evident, as seen in the St. Stanisław affair (Stanisław), and Bolesław the Magnificent was deposed by Sieciech (mid-11th century to early 12th century) who supported his brother Władysław Herman (c. 1043-1102) (1079).
