National Labor Union - Kokuro

Japanese:
National Labor Union - Kokuro
Its official name is the National Railway Workers' Union. It was founded in 1946 under the name of the National Railway Workers' Union Confederation, and was reorganized and renamed in 1947. Despite being subject to restrictions under the Public Service Labor Law under the occupation regime after World War II, it continued to fight fiercely together with the Coal Miners' Union. In 1951 the National Railway Locomotive Workers' Union (Doro) separated, and after a further split in 1957, the New National Railway Workers' Union Confederation (abbreviated as Shin Kokuro, and renamed the Railway Workers' Union (Tetsuro) in 1962. The right-wing (affiliated with the Democratic Socialist Party) withdrew from the union and it separated, but it continued to be a core member of the Public Service Workers' Union and was an important organization until the dissolution of Sohyo (General Council of Japanese Trade Unions) in 1989. As it consistently opposed the division and privatization of the National Railways, its members left and it became a minority union. It did not change its name even after privatization in 1987. →Japan National Railways/Law-abiding Struggle→Related Article Mitaka Incident
