Mino da Fiesole (English spelling)
1429‐84
Italian sculptor. Born in Poppi, he was active in Florence, Rome, and other areas. He is said to have been a pupil of Desiderio da Settignano of Florence, and his works have classical elegance and decorativeness. He was one of the earliest Renaissance artists to create bust-style portraits (Niccolò Strozzi, Piero de' Medici, etc.) influenced by ancient Roman sculpture, and he also produced many mausoleums that combined sculpture, which was popular at the time, with architectural motifs.
