Artistic swimming

...A water sport in which participants combine various swimming styles and techniques to compete on the basis of technical accuracy and beauty of expression.
[history]
In England, Germany and other countries, a form of mass-game-style school swimming that combines floating and swimming to music was performed around 1920 under the name artistic swimming. It spread through Canada and then to the United States, where it was developed under the name water ballet, and was shown as an exhibition at the Chicago World's Fair in 1934. This led to it being performed as an underwater show in various places.
