Grant's gazelle

Japanese: グラントガゼル - ぐらんとがぜる（英語表記）Grant's gazelle

A mammal of the bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla (illustration). A medium-sized antelope that lives in the savannahs of East Africa. Both males and females have large horns in proportion to their body size, a light yellowish brown body color, and a prominent white marking on their rump. Body length is 1-1.2 m, tail length 12-14 cm. Male horns are usually 55 cm long, with particularly large ones reaching nearly 80 cm. Female horns are thin and short. They live in herds of several dozen animals, and in the dry season they can number more than 200 to 400 animals, on dry grasslands with good visibility and shrubs.

偶蹄目ウシ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。東アフリカのサバンナにすむ中型のアンテロープ。雌雄とも体の割りに大きな角をもち，体色は淡黄褐色で，臀部（でんぶ）によく目だつ白色の斑紋がある。体長1～1.2m，尾長12～14cm。角は雄でふつう長さ55cm，とくに大きなものでは80cm近いものもある。雌の角は細く短い。見通しのよい低木の混じる乾燥した草原に，ふつう数十頭，乾季には200頭から400頭以上になる群れで生活する。
