…the collective name for the three supranational regional integration organizations in Europe: the European Economic Community (EEC), the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and Euratom (the European Atomic Energy Community EURATOM). Although they are abbreviated as EC, they became part of the European Union (EU) that was created in 1992 by the Maastricht Treaty. The Council, which is the legislative body of the three communities, and the Commission, which is the executive body, were unified into a single EC Council (commonly known as the Council of Ministers) and a single EC Commission by the Fusion Treaty signed in April 1965, and the three communities were organizationally unified on July 1, 1967, and thereafter came to be known as the European Community. …
