Takitaro Minakami - Takitaro Minakami

Novelist, critic, and playwright. Born in Tokyo on December 6, 1887. His real name was Abe Shozo. His pen name was taken from the protagonists of novels "Furyusen" and "Kuroyuri" by his beloved Izumi Kyoka. While studying finance at Keio University, he got to know Kubota Mantaro and others, and was influenced by his teacher Nagai Kafu. In 1911 (Meiji 44), he published the novel "Yamanote no Ko" in "Mita Bungaku," which attracted attention, and he published his first collection of works, "Shojosaku" (1912). In 1912 (Meiji 45), he studied abroad at Harvard University. After graduating, he went to London, returning to Japan in 1916. While working at Meiji Life Insurance Company (now Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company), which was founded by his father (Abe Taizo), he took up the pen and published many collections of works, including "Marine Diary" (1917), "Sunday" (1920), "Osaka" (1923), "Osaka Inn" (1926), "Fruit Trees" (1929), "London Inn" (1935), and "Inheritance" (1936). He also wrote 203 critiques and essays under the title "Expulsion of Shells." In 1950, he became an editorial committee member of "Mita Bungaku" and worked hard to train the next generation as its "spiritual director." Mizukami's literature was characterized by a strong sense of morality and criticism of civilization, and he was greatly respected in real life as well. He died on March 23, 1940.
