Mr. Minagawa

Japanese:
Mr. Minagawa
A medieval and early modern samurai family from Shimotsuke. The Koyama clan. It began when Munekazu, the grandson of Naganuma Munemasa, the second son of Koyama Masamitsu, lived in Minagawa Manor in Tsuga County, Shimotsuke Province, and called himself Minagawa Shirozaemon-no-jo. His descendants eventually lost the Minagawa domain, and in the Muromachi period, the line of Naganuma Muneyasu, Munekazu's younger brother, took up the Minagawa clan based in Minagawa Castle. His descendant, Toshimune's son Hiroteru, opposed the Utsunomiya, Satake, and Odawara Hojo clans, and in 1590 (Tensho 18), when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Odawara, he holed himself up in Odawara Castle. However, he left the castle on April 8 and surrendered, so Hideyoshi granted him his original Minagawa domain of 13,000 koku and made it belong to Tokugawa Ieyasu.
