Japanese: 水上[町] - みなかみ

A former town in Tone District, northern Gunma Prefecture. Located in the upper reaches of the Tone River, Mt. Tanigawadake stands on the western border, Mt. Shibutsu stands on the eastern border, and Mt. Hotaka stands on the southeastern border. The center of the town is Yubara, which is connected to the Joetsu Line and the Kan'etsu Expressway. Minakami Onsen (a bitter spring containing gypsum, 42°C) springs up, and hot spring towns have developed along the Tone River, including Yubiso, Kamimoku, and Tanigawa, which form the center of the Minakami Onsen area. It is also a tourist base for Mt. Tanigawadake, which belongs to Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park, and the Tenjindaira Ski Resort. The Yagisawa Dam is located at the uppermost reaches of the Tone River. In October 2005, it merged with Tsukiyono Town and Niiharu Village in Tone District to become Minakami Town in Tone District. 527.72 ^km2 . 6,085 people (2003).

群馬県北部，利根郡の旧町。利根川上流域を占め，西境に谷川岳，東境に至仏山(しぶつさん)，南東境に武尊山(ほたかやま)がそびえる。中心は上越線，関越自動車道が通じる湯原で，水上温泉（含石膏苦味泉，42℃）がわき，利根川沿いに温泉街が発達，湯檜曾(ゆびそ)，上牧(かみもく)，谷川など水上温泉郷の中心をなす。上信越高原国立公園に属する谷川岳，天神平スキー場などの観光基地でもある。利根川最上流に矢木沢ダムがある。2005年10月，利根郡月夜野町，新治村と合併し町制，利根郡みなかみ町となる。527.72km²。6085人（2003）。
