Japanese: ケイビラン - けいびらん

A genus and species of lily plant endemic to Japan that grows on rocky areas in the mountains on the Pacific coast of southwestern Japan (illustration). It belongs to the Asparagus family, a highly specialized group within the lily family, and is thought to be related to the tropical genus Spider. A summer-green perennial. The leaves are basal, sickle-shaped, linear, somewhat fleshy, and have beautiful white lines on the underside. The name Keibiran means "cocktail orchid," and the sickle-shaped, clumping leaves resemble a rooster's tail, and the genus name is the same. The flower stalk is 10-40 cm tall, flat, and has narrow wings that jut out on both sides.

西南日本の太平洋側の山地の岩場に生育する1属1種で日本特産のユリ科植物（イラスト）。ユリ科の中では特殊化の進んだ群であるツルボラン亜科に属し，熱帯性のオリヅルラン属などに類縁があると考えられている。夏緑性の多年草。葉は根生し，鎌形に曲がった線形でやや肉質，裏面に白い線があって美しい。ケイビランは鶏尾蘭の意味で，鎌形に曲がって叢生（そうせい）する葉をニワトリの尾に見たてたもので，属名も同義である。花茎は高さ10～40cm，扁平で両側にはりだした狭い翼がある。
