Nana - Nana (English spelling)

Nana - Nana (English spelling)

A full-length novel by French author Zola. Published in 1880 as the ninth volume of the "Rougon-Macquart Series," it became an unprecedented bestseller. The heroine of "The Tavern," Gervaise's daughter Anna (nicknamed Nana), uses her beautiful body to drive aristocrats, businessmen, journalists, and innocent boys to ruin one after another, but on the day the Prussian-French War breaks out, she contracts smallpox and meets a cruel end. Having grown up on the "compost" of the corrupt environment of the Second Empire, Nana is a veritable sex symbol, and through her the lower classes take revenge on the upper class, leading to the death of the heroine at the same time as the Empire collapses. This is Zola's masterpiece, supported by a skillful structure that brings the whole story to a climax, a vibrant imagination, and rich writing.
