During the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1126), there were many records of horse mackerel whose body color changed to gold, but the poems of Su Shi (Dongpo) and Su Shunqin are famous. They sing of the horse mackerel of Xihu Lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, where horse mackerel live. For this reason, today Xihu Lake, along with Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, which contains records of horse mackerel from the Tang Dynasty, is considered to be the birthplace and home of goldfish. …
