Born January 14, 1857. The eighth son of Mitsui Takayoshi. The 10th head of the Mitsui family. In 1885, he took the name of the 15th head, Hachiroemon. In 1891, he founded the Mitsui Family Association, and in 1907, he became president of the Mitsui Partnership, and together with director Dan Takuma, he oversaw the Mitsui zaibatsu. He retired during the anti-zaibatsu movement during the Great Depression of 1933. He passed away on February 9, 1948. He was 92 years old. He was born in Kyoto. His posthumous name was Muneyoshi.
