...The mosquitoes of the genus Culex and Anopheles ingest microfilariae while sucking blood and transmit the infection. After infection with the infective larvae that develop inside the mosquito's body, the patient is asymptomatic for several months, after which lymphangitis and lymphadenitis develop in the scrotum and extremities, followed by fever attacks (known as "grass sieve"). The fever attacks are repeated irregularly every few weeks or months.
