A former town in Mitsuishi District, in the central south of Hokkaido. The Hidaka Main Line runs through it. It occupies the basin of the Mitsuishi River and the Kerimai River, which flow into the Pacific Ocean. It cultivates rice, vegetables, breeds light horses and beef cattle, and collects kelp. In March 2006, it merged with Shizunai Town, Shizunai District, to become a town, forming Shinhidaka Town, Hidaka District. Area: 346.22 km2 . Population: 5,264 (2003). 北海道中南部，三石郡の旧町。日高本線が通じる。太平洋に注ぐ三石川，鳧舞(けりまい)川の流域を占め，米作，野菜栽培，軽種馬，肉牛飼育，コンブ採集などを行う。2006年３月，静内郡静内町と合併し町制，日高郡新ひだか町となる。346.22km2。5264人（2003）。
