Mitsuishi [town] - Mitsuishi
A former town in Mitsuishi District, in the central south of Hokkaido. The Hidaka Main Line runs through it. It occupies the basin of the Mitsuishi River and the Kerimai River, which flow into the Pacific Ocean. It cultivates rice, vegetables, breeds light horses and beef cattle, and collects kelp. In March 2006, it merged with Shizunai Town, Shizunai District, to become a town, forming Shinhidaka Town, Hidaka District. Area: 346.22 km2 . Population: 5,264 (2003).
