A land snail of the family E. p. nimbosa (snail illustration). A common snail found in the Kanto region, Yamanashi, Nagano, and Shizuoka. The shell is 2 cm high, 3.6 cm in diameter, and has a low coil of 5 to 6 stories (illustration). The shell is thin and pale yellow, and often has yellowish-white smudges along the growth veins. The last coil has three black bands, hence the name. However, there are many variations, with some individuals only having black bands around the periphery and some having no black bands at all. The base color of the shell is also entirely black, and individuals with yellowish-white smudges live in mountainous areas such as Hakone and Amagi; these are called E. p . nimbosa .
