Japanese: 串木野[市] - くしきの

An old city in the northwest of the Satsuma Peninsula in western Kagoshima Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1950. The city center, which is served by the Kagoshima Main Line and National Route 3, is one of the prefecture's leading fishing ports, and is home to deep-sea tuna fishing, seafood processing, shipbuilding, and ice manufacturing. Potatoes, sour pomelos, and mandarin oranges are cultivated, and livestock processing such as ham is also thriving. A national underground oil storage facility was built at Kushikino New Port, and the Seisatsu Core Industrial Park was developed nearby. The Kushikino Mine has been producing gold since the feudal era. In October 2005, it merged with Ichiki Town, Hioki County, to become a city, forming Ichikikushikino City. Area: ^{80.46 km2} . 鹿児島県西部，薩摩半島の北西部の旧市。1950年市制。鹿児島本線，国道３号線が通じる中心市街は県下有数の漁港をもち，マグロ遠洋漁業，水産加工，造船，製氷が行われる。ジャガイモ，サワーポメロ，ミカンの栽培，ハムなどの畜産加工も盛ん。串木野新港には国家石油地下備蓄基地が建設され，近くには西薩中核工業団地が造成された。串木野鉱山は藩政時代以来金を産出している。2005年10月，日置郡市来町と合併し市制，いちき串木野市となる。80.46km²。２万6687人（2003）。
