These rocks were thought to be formed by palingenesis, in which existing rocks are remelted to form new magma, anatexis, which is selective melting, or by the extraction of granite components from solution [Sederholm: 1913]. Wegmann later suggested that ions or molecules diffuse between grains as liquid magma becomes active and starts to move in the lower part of the geosyncline [Wegmann: 1935]. Read further suggested that magma is formed through migma [Read: 1957]. A gneiss-like composite rock formed when granite magma intrudes between schists, and is a composite rock made up of two or more petrologically different parts as a whole [Sederholm: 1907]. One of these rocks is a more or less metamorphosed parent rock, while the other has a pegmatite, aplitic, granitic or general plutonic appearance [Sederholm: 1907, Mehnert: 1968]. Scheumann describes it as a composite rock consisting of older rock fragments and a liquid matrix of younger rocks [Scheumann: 1936]. It is a rock occurring in areas of moderate to high metamorphism, and shows macroscopic heterogeneity, with some of it being light in color and of quartz-feldspathic or feldspathic composition. It is often treated as a granite, and in particular, partial melting has been noted. Migma is Greek for mixture, and refers to a mixture or mush of solid rock fragments and molten basement [Reinhard: 1935]. Mictite [Scheumann: 1936].
