Mannari stone

Japanese:
Mannari stone

The name of a type of granite quarried in the Iwai and Mannari areas of Kita-ku, Okayama City. It is a representative type of pink granite in Japan, and is a type of granite from the Mesozoic Cretaceous period that is widely distributed on the Sanyo side of the Chugoku region. It is a medium- to coarse-grained biotite granite, and is composed of colorless and transparent quartz, light pink or light red potassium feldspar, white plagioclase, biotite, and small amounts of amphibole. Its appearance as a stone material is similar to that of Hon-granite, but because of its beautiful pink or pink color, it is used nationwide as a decorative stone material for stone monuments and buildings. Magi-mikage, which is mined in Nishikataoka, south of Saidaiji, Higashi-ku, Okayama City, is also a type of this type, and both became famous when they were used during the construction of Meiji Shrine.
