Batch process - Kaibun process (English name)

Japanese: 回分プロセス - かいぶんプロセス（英語表記）batch process

A process in which the changes in raw materials, such as drying, reactions, and food processing, occur as a time-dependent change without moving the raw materials. In contrast, a continuous process is a process in which the raw materials are moved and the process occurs as a spatial change. In a continuous process, the process state is steady, whereas in a batch process, the process state changes over time. For this reason, automation is more difficult than with a continuous process, and process management and operation require manual labor. Historically, the batch process came first, and the general trend has been to move to a continuous process as the processing volume increased.

乾燥，反応，食品加工など原料が変化していく過程を，原料を動かさず時間的変化として実現するプロセス。これに対し，原料を動かして空間的変化として実現させるプロセスが連続プロセスcontinuous processである。連続式はプロセスの状態が定常的であるのに対し，回分式ではプロセスの状態が時間的に変化する。そのため，連続式にくらべ自動化がむずかしく，プロセスの管理，運転に人手を要する。歴史的には回分式が最初で，処理量が大きくなると，連続式に移るのが一般的傾向である。
