A unique syncretic Gnostic religion found in the Tigris and Euphrates valleys of Iraq and in Khuzestan in Iran. Its number of adherents is estimated at around 2,000. Its name comes from mandā (spiritual knowledge), a dialect of Aramaic spoken by its adherents. Its adherents are called Ṣābi'a in Arabic. Its most distinctive ritual is immersion in running water. This is based on the idea that rivers flow from the heavens down into the northern mountains, and adherents worship facing north.

イラクのティグリス，ユーフラテス下流域およびイランのフージスターンに現存する，グノーシス主義の特異な混合宗教。教徒数は2000人前後と推定される。その名称は，教徒の用いるアラム語の一方言のマンダーmandā(霊知)に由来する。教徒はアラビア語では，サービアṢābi‘aと称される。その最も特徴的な儀礼は，流水で浸礼を行うことである。川は北方の山岳に天上より流れ下るとする観念によるもので，教徒は北方に向き礼拝する。
