Manchuria (Manchuria) - Manshu (English spelling) Mǎn zhōu

Japanese: 満州(満洲) - まんしゅう（英語表記）Mǎn zhōu

It originally came from the Manchu people, who ruled China during the Qing dynasty, abandoning their traditional tribal title of Jurchen and renaming themselves Manchuria. By extension, northeastern China, the ancestral homeland of the Manchu people, is called Manchuria in Japan, and Manchuria in other countries outside of China. In particular, Japan gave the name Manchukuo to the puppet government it created in this region. In China, this region is called Tohoku, and not Manchuria.
