Battle of Navarino - Battle of Navarino

A naval battle (October 20, 1827) fought during the Greek War of Independence (1821-29). The combined fleet of Britain, France, and Russia under Admiral Edward Codrington (1770-1851), who was assisting Greece, destroyed the combined Turkish-Egyptian fleet led by Ibrahim Pasha off the coast of Navarino, a port city on the southwestern tip of the Peloponnese. This battle dealt a decisive blow to the Ottoman naval power and marked the achievement of the Greek national independence movement.

ギリシア独立戦争（1821～29）中に戦われた海戦（1827.10.20）。ギリシアを援助するコドリントンEdward Codrington（1770―1851）提督麾下(きか)のイギリス、フランス、ロシア三か国の連合艦隊が、ペロポネソス半島南西端の港町ナバリノNavarinoの沖合いで、イブラヒーム・パシャの率いるトルコ・エジプト連合艦隊を壊滅させた。この戦いにより、オスマン朝の海軍力は決定的な打撃を受け、ギリシアの民族自立運動の達成をみることとなった。
