Chrysocolla (English spelling)

Japanese: ケイクジャク石(珪孔雀石) - けいくじゃくいし（英語表記）chrysocolla

A type of mineral. It is also called chrysocolla. Its chemical composition is roughly CuSiO ₃ ･ n H ₂ O, and it is cryptocrystalline and has a glassy luster. It is a blue-green lump with a shell-like fracture. Its Mohs hardness is 2.5, and its specific gravity is 2.0-2.4. It occurs in the oxidation zone of copper deposits along with secondary copper minerals such as malachite. It is found in copper mines throughout Japan, and specimens from the Ani mine in Akita Prefecture, Hisaichi mine in the same day, Ota mine in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and Yamato mine are well known. It is difficult to dissolve in sulfuric acid with a concentration of 5% or less, but copper can be leached at a concentration of 7% or more, so it is mixed in mines that produce a large amount of copper oxide ore.

鉱物の一種。クリソコーラともいう。化学成分は大略CuSiO₃･nH₂Oとされており，潜晶質，ガラス光沢を示す。青緑色塊状を呈し，貝殻状断口を示す。モース硬度2.5，比重2.0～2.4。クジャク石など銅の二次鉱物と伴って銅鉱床の酸化帯に産出する。日本各地の銅鉱山より産出し，秋田県阿仁（あに）鉱山，同日三市（ひさいち）鉱山，山口県太田鉱山，大和鉱山などの産出標本はよく知られている。濃度5％以下の硫酸には難溶であるが，7％以上の濃度では銅の浸出が可能であるので，多量の銅酸化鉱石を産出する鉱山においては混在する。
