…General term for birds of the family Dinornithidae in the order Ostrich (or Moa). Also called trepid birds. This family consists of six genera and about 19 species, differing in size and beak shape. They lived only on the northern and southern islands of New Zealand, but all species became extinct at the latest by the beginning of the 19th century.
