(1) A land term used in the Edo period. It refers to the actual amount (area) of land, and the actual rice yield was called uchidaka or jitsudaka. In contrast, the official amount recorded in the land survey book was called omenbu, and the rice yield was called omenbu. It is customary for the utabu to be greater than the omenbu. (2) A modern financial term. It refers to the premium (amount over face value) that arises from currency, foreign exchange (see the entry for "Exchange Premiums"), stocks, and public bonds. Even in the Muromachi period, bad coins were used with utabu attached in addition to standard coins (good coins). Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
