〘Noun〙 A job title in the Edo Shogunate. Established in 1643 ( Kan'ei 20 ). Controlled by the Wakadoshiyori. Stationed near the Tokei Room, they served as the vanguard when the Shogun was out. 〘名〙 江戸幕府の職名。寛永二〇年(一六四三)創置。若年寄支配。土圭(とけい)の間近くに詰め、将軍外出時に先駆をつとめるもの。新御番。近習番。※仮名草子・武蔵あふみ(写本)(1661)上「のこるぶんは、壱万石以上五十四人、御書院番百九十九人、新番二十三人、御たい所八十三人なり」
