Also written as uchitoku. Abbreviation of uchi no tokubun. A term that often appears in rice field sales certificates and donation letters from the Muromachi and Sengoku periods in the provinces surrounding Kinai, such as Omi, Echizen, and Mino. It is expressed as miyo no uchitoku or miyo no tokubun, and in most cases refers to the private share of the miyoshu (headman's land), which was transferred through buying and selling. The Echizen Saifukuji document, dated February 9, 1515 (Eisho 12), shows the sale of two tan of rice fields belonging to the Hiranai miyo. However, since the sale was for the miyoshu's share of the nouchitoku, the headman (headman's landowner) would be responsible for the main tax and other expenses, and so no miscellaneous public duties would be incurred for the field.
