A tribe living in West Africa across Guinea (1 million), Côte d'Ivoire (700,000), Mali (300,000), etc. They are sometimes called Mandingo. Their language belongs to the Mande language family. The Malinke are as powerful as the Bambara among the Mande tribes, and are the largest tribe in Guinea. They live in the savannas upstream of the Niger River and are engaged in agriculture, with pearl millet, sorghum, fonio and other cereals as their main crops. 西アフリカのギニア(100万人),コートジボアール(70万人),マリ(30万人)などにまたがって居住する部族。マンディンゴ族Mandingoと呼ばれることもある。言語はマンデ語群に属する。マリンケ族はマンデ諸族のなかでもバンバラ族とならび有力で,ギニアでは最大の部族となっている。ニジェール川上流のサバンナで,トウジンビエ,モロコシ,フォニオなどの雑穀を主作物とする農業に従事する。またイネも灌漑により栽培している。
