A former town in the Naka district in northern Wakayama Prefecture. The northern part is on the southern slope of the Izumi Mountains, while the southern part is the plains of the Kinokawa River basin, an agricultural region producing rice, onions, and mandarin oranges. The Wakayama Line runs through the town. In November 2005, it merged with the towns of Konawa, Naka, Momoyama, and Kishigawa in the Naka district to become Kinokawa City. 48.45 km2 . 和歌山県北部,那賀(なが)郡の旧町。北部は和泉(いずみ)山脈の南斜面であるが,南部は紀ノ川流域の平野で,米,タマネギ,ミカンを産する農産地帯。和歌山線が通じる。2005年11月,那賀郡粉河町,那賀町,桃山町,貴志川町と合併し市制,紀の川市となる。48.45km2。1万5107人(2003)。
