Equipment worn by people to protect life and health from danger or injury. Commonly used protective equipment includes head-safety helmets (safety hats), eyes-protective glasses, sun-shielding glasses, face-protective covers, ears-earplugs, ear muffs, hands-protective gloves, hand guards, feet-safety shoes (safety shoes), protective boots, leggings, breathing apparatus-dust masks, gas masks, air-supplied masks, air respirators, oxygen respirators, body-protective clothing, heat-resistant clothing, lifelines, and life jackets. Appropriate equipment should be selected according to the type of work, and users must be familiar with the correct usage. (→ Safety equipment )
