Tenkagunkokuriheisho - Tenkagunkokuriheisho

Tenkagunkokuriheisho - Tenkagunkokuriheisho

This book was written by Gu Yanwu (1613-82), a scholar from the late Ming to the early Qing dynasties of China. It is a compilation of useful articles on politics and economics, extracted from geography books across the country and organized by region. The word "ri-dong" means "benefit" and "harm," and the purpose of the book is to shed light on the actual state of local politics in the Ming dynasty from both the benefit and harm perspectives, for future reference. It is merely a collection of data, and was conveyed in unfinished manuscript form without being organized or edited by the author. After the author's death, it was organized into 120 volumes, and a woodblock-type edition was also produced, but a reliable text must be based on a photographic reproduction of the original. The value of this book lies in the fact that it quotes many social and economic documents from geography books from the Ming dynasty that are not seen today.
