A town in Kita District, central Ehime Prefecture. The main settlement developed as a temple town for Koshoji Temple, a post town, and a market town. From the end of the Edo period to the Meiji and Taisho periods, it was a center for wax production and bleaching wax, and a distribution center for Ozu paper. It produces timber, chestnuts, tobacco leaves, and rice. It is served by the Yosan Line and Uchiko Line. In January 2005, Oda Town, Kamiukena District, and Ikazaki Town, Kita District, were incorporated, and the town hall became the former Ikazaki Town Hall. 299.43 km2 . 18,045 people (2010). 愛媛県中部,喜多郡の町。主集落は高昌寺の門前町,宿場町,市場町として発達,幕末〜明治・大正期は製蝋,晒(さらし)蝋の中心地,大洲(おおず)半紙の集散地であった。木材,クリ,葉タバコ,米を産する。予讃線,内子線が通じる。2005年1月上浮穴郡小田町,喜多郡五十崎町を編入し,町役場を旧五十崎町役場とした。299.43km2。1万8045人(2010)。
