A type of silk spinning method. It is a regenerative spinning method that uses waste yarn and low-grade raw materials from silk spinning, and is also called by-product spinning. Raw materials include brett (carded cotton waste), fluff, and silk spinning waste. (1) Cotton blending: The various raw materials and spinning oil are mixed and homogenized according to the spinning count. (2) Carding: The mixed raw materials are shaped into noodles to the required yarn count. (3) Spinning: The yarn is made using a mule spinning frame or a ring spinning frame. Through these processes, tsumugi thread is produced. Tsumugi thread is used to make various fancy yarns. 絹糸紡績法の一種。絹糸紡績でできた屑糸や低級原料などを利用する再生紡績法で,副製紡績とも呼ばれる。原料にはブレット (梳綿屑〈そめんくず〉) や毛羽 (けば) ,絹紡糸屑などを用いる。 (1) 混綿 紡出番手に応じ,各原料および紡績油などを混合,均一化する。 (2) 梳綿 混合原料を必要糸番手に合せてうどん状とする。 (3) 紡糸 ミュール精紡機またはリング精紡機に掛けて糸をつくる。以上の工程を経て,紬糸 (つむぎいと) ができる。紬糸は種々のファンシーヤーン (飾り糸) をつくるのに用いる。
