Each family court provides consultation services for family problems. This was originally established under the pretense of instructing the procedures for family court adjudication or mediation when accepting oral family court cases. However, the current situation does not stop there, and also provides abstract explanations of legal issues in response to questions. In most cases, consultations are handled by family court investigators and clerks who are knowledgeable about law and practice, but in some courts, experienced counselors are in charge. However, this consultation is not based on explicit legal grounds, and is merely a matter of convenience. For this reason, the limitations of family consultations are unclear, and their handling varies from court to court, and there is a demand for legislation and budgetary measures to be taken.

各家庭裁判所で行われている，家庭問題に関する相談事務。これは，もともと家庭裁判所での口頭による家事事件の受付に際して家事審判ないし調停の手続を教示するとのたてまえから発足したものである。しかし，現状はその程度にとどまるものではなく，質問に応じて法律問題を抽象的に説明するなどのこともしている。相談には法律と実務に明るい家庭裁判所調査官，書記官があたっているところが多いが，なかには経験豊富な参与員が担当しているところもある。ただこの相談は法律上明文の根拠をもつものではなく，事実的なものとして便宜上行われているにすぎない。そのため，家事相談の限界が明らかでなく，その取扱いも各裁判所によってまちまちであり，その法制化および予算的措置を講じることが要望されている。
