A mushroom of the Aspergillus family of irregular cyst fungi. A warm-climate fungus that grows on decaying trunks and cut surfaces of Machilus thunbergii, the fruiting body is yellow to yellowish brown, cylindrical, and 1 to 2 cm tall. Its overall shape resembles a cosmetic eyebrow brush, hence the name. The trunk of the fruiting body is a dense collection of hyphae, with powdery spores (ascospores) at the end. It is found in tropical regions such as Java and Borneo, and is often found in Japan when examining Machilus thunbergii in southern Kanto and further south. It appears to be more common near the coast. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
