The head temple of the Japanese sect, located in Shitennoji, Tennoji Ward, Osaka City. In the past, it was called Araryoji, Nanba-ji, etc., and is also known as Tennoji. The principal image is the Kuse Kannon Bodhisattva. It is said that it began when Prince Shotoku enshrined the Four Heavenly Kings to pray for victory during the Mononobe Moriya Rebellion. In 593, it was moved to its current location, and Keiden-in, Hiden-in, Seyaku-in, and Ryo-in were established, and the temple worked to promote Buddhism and social relief projects, which were Prince Shotoku's ideal. The layout of the temple, with the middle gate, five-story pagoda, main hall, and lecture hall lined up in a straight line from north to south, is an older style than the Horyuji style, and is said to be the Shitennoji style. Since its founding, it has suffered many fires, and was destroyed in World War II. After the war, it was rebuilt with reinforced concrete. It has long been the center of Prince Shotoku worship, and the west gate was the east gate of paradise, where people often worshiped the setting sun. The museum has a collection of many masterpieces, including a fan-shaped Lotus Sutra booklet and a hanging amulet. → Related topics Osaka [city] | Kaiyokaze | Image [sen] | Kumano Kaido | Prince Shotoku | Prince's biography | Tennoji | Tennoji [ward] | Nakamura Gakuryo | Wakakusa Garan ruins | Watanabetsu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
