Psychologist. Born in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture. Adopted by the Matsumoto family. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University and went on to graduate school. A student of Motora Yujiro. Guided by American psychologist George T. Ladd (1842-1921), he studied at Yale University, where he studied experimental psychology under scripture Edward W. Scripture (1864-1945) and served as an assistant. On his way back to Japan, he studied under W. Bundt in Leipzig. After returning to Japan, he became a lecturer at Tokyo University, and was instrumental in establishing the university's psychology laboratory (1903), and also established a laboratory during his time at Kyoto Imperial University (1906-1913). Following the sudden death of Professor Motora, he became a professor at Tokyo University (1913-1925), and later became president of the Japanese Psychological Association (1927-1943). He had an early interest in training psychological engineers, and contributed to the application of psychology in many fields, including the military, industry, education, art, law, and aviation, as well as to the training of instructors. He is one of the people who built the foundations of Japanese psychology. The "psychodosology" he advocated is a science of behavior that considers humans as mental and physical beings and studies physical changes as a manifestation of the mind. He has written many books. 心理学者。群馬県高崎市出身。松本家の養子となる。東京帝国大学卒業、大学院に進む。元良勇次郎(もとらゆうじろう)の弟子。アメリカの心理学者ラッドGeorge T. Ladd(1842―1921)の手引きでエール大学に留学、スクリプチャーEdward W.
