Japanese: 松任[市] - まっとう

An old city in southern Ishikawa Prefecture. Established as a city in 1970. Located west of Kanazawa City, it occupies an alluvial fan downstream of the Tedori River and is famous for producing early-season rice. Thanks to its favorable location, large companies such as JR, general machinery, and electrical machinery have continued to move into the area, and industrialization is progressing rapidly. The Hokuriku Main Line runs through the area, and residential development has progressed, resulting in an 8.3% population increase in the five years since 1990, and many people commute to Kanazawa City. In February 2005, it merged with Ishikawa County's Mikawa Town, Tsurugi Town, Kawachi Village, Yoshinotani Village, Torigoe Village, Oguchi Village, and Shiramine Village to become a city, Hakusan City. 59.93 ^km2 . Population 67,454 (2003).

石川県南部の旧市。1970年市制。金沢市の西隣にあり，手取(てどり)川下流の扇状地を占め，早場米地帯として有名。立地条件に恵まれて，JR，一般機器，電気機器など大規模な企業の進出が続き，急速に工業化が進んでいる。北陸本線が通じ，宅地化が進んで1990年からの５年間で8.3％の人口増加がみられ，金沢市への通勤者も多い。2005年２月石川郡美川町，鶴来町，河内村，吉野谷村，鳥越村，尾口村，白峰村と合併し市制，白山市となる。59.93km²。６万7454人（2003）。
