The former name of a town (Aizu-Takada-machi) in Onuma-gun, western Fukushima Prefecture. Currently, the area occupies the central to southern part of Aizu-Misato-machi. The former Aizu-Takada-machi was formed in 1955 (Showa 30) when Takada-machi (established as a town in 1896) merged with six villages: Akazawa, Nagaino, Omata, Higashi-Ogi, Asahi, and Fujikawa. In 2005 (Heisei 17), it merged with Aizu-Hongo-machi and Niitsuru-mura to form Aizu-Misato-machi. Takada, the center of this region, is located on a slight elevation along the Miyagawa River, and the place name is derived from this. The northeastern part is the floodplain of the Okawa River, and the southwestern part is mountainous on the southern edge of the Aizu Basin, and agriculture is the main industry. In addition to rice, tobacco and hops are also cultivated, and plums are a specialty product. Takada was a post town on the Shimotsuke back road from Bange to Ouchi (now Shimogo Town), where a Rokusaiichi market was held, and where the county office was located during the Meiji period. It is also the location of the Aizu Misato Town Hall. In 1926 (Taisho 15), when the Aizu Line (now the JR Tadami Line) was extended to Bange, Aizu-Takada Station was opened. National Route 401 runs through the town. The rice planting ritual at Isasu Shrine in Oshu Ninomiya is a prefectural intangible folk cultural asset. Hoyo-ji Temple is home to the oldest Chinese-style built shrine and Buddhist altar in the main hall in Aizu, as well as wooden standing statues of Kongorikishi from the late Heian period (both designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan), and Ryuko-ji Temple is home to the National Treasure ``Ichiji Rendai Hoke Kyo'', a sutra copied in the Heian period.
