Uzumasa

This is an area of ​​Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. It was the residence of the Hata clan, immigrants from before the capital was moved to Heian-kyo. The place name comes from Sake no Kimi's surname, Uzumasa. Koryuji Temple, built by Hata Kawakatsu, houses Kyoto's oldest Buddhist statue, Maitreya Bodhisattva, as well as other Buddhist statues that are designated national treasures and important cultural properties. The area is served by the JR Sanin Main Line and Keifuku Electric Railroad Arashiyama Line, and is currently home to the Ukyo Ward Office. As part of the Rakusei Industrial Area, machinery, dyeing and other industries have developed. It was also one of the centers of Japan's film industry, and the movie village established at Toei Film Studios is popular with tourists.

京都市右京区の一地区。平安京遷都前から渡来人秦(はた)氏一族の居住した所。地名は酒公(さけのきみ)の姓、禹豆満佐(うずまさ)に由来する。秦河勝(かわかつ)が建立した広隆寺(こうりゅうじ)には、京都最古の仏像の弥勒菩薩(みろくぼさつ)像をはじめ、国宝、重要文化財の仏像が蔵されている。JR山陰本線、京福電鉄嵐山(あらしやま)線が通じ、現在は右京区役所があり、洛西(らくせい)工業地域として、機械、染色などの諸工業が発達する。また日本の映画産業の一中心をなし、東映撮影所に置かれた映画村は観光客の人気を集めている。
