Nijo Michihira

Year of birth: 1288
A nobleman in the late Kamakura period. His father was Kanemoto and his mother was the daughter of Fujiwara Tameaki. His son was Yoshimoto. He was called Gokomyoshoin-dono. In 1313 he became Minister of the Left, and the following year he was promoted to Junior First Rank. In the fifth year he was appointed Regent, but resigned in 1318. He was held accountable by the Kamakura Shogunate on April 10, 1332 (Shokei 1/Genko 2) for his involvement in Emperor Go-Daigo's second anti-shogunate movement, and was placed in the care of his father Kanemoto. However, once the Emperor's anti-shogunate movement was successful he became Minister of the Left and head of the clan. His diary includes the "Gokomyoshoin Regent Dohei-koki."

鎌倉後期の公卿。父は兼基。母は藤原為顕の娘。良基は子。後光明照院殿と称した。正和2(1313)年左大臣,翌年従一位。5年関白に補任されたが,文保2(1318)年辞任。後醍醐天皇の第2次討幕運動に関与したため,正慶1/元弘2(1332)年4月10日に鎌倉幕府から問責され,父兼基に預けられた。しかし,天皇の討幕運動が成功するや,左大臣,氏長者となった。日記に『後光明照院関白道平公記』がある。
