A former town in Minamisaku District, eastern Nagano Prefecture. The city developed on both banks of the Chikuma River, which flows north through the Saku Basin in the central part of the prefecture. The Saku-Koshu Highway runs along the left bank, and the Koumi Line runs along the right bank. The town produces rice, flowers, and fruit, and is known for its medicinal carps and Saku carp. The ruins of Tatsuoka Castle (historic site) can be found in Taguchi. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Saku City along with Mochizuki Town and Asashina Village in Kitasaku District. 長野県東部,南佐久郡の旧町。中部の佐久盆地を北流する千曲川の両岸に市街が発達,左岸に佐久甲州街道,右岸に小海(こうみ)線が通じる。米,花卉(かき),果樹を産し,薬用ニンジン,佐久ゴイを特産。田口に竜岡城跡(史跡)がある。2005年4月北佐久郡望月町,浅科村と佐久市へ編入。83.21km2。1万5491人(2003)。
