A former town in Minamisaku District, eastern Nagano Prefecture. The city developed on both banks of the Chikuma River, which flows north through the Saku Basin in the central part of the prefecture. The Saku-Koshu Highway runs along the left bank, and the Koumi Line runs along the right bank. The town produces rice, flowers, and fruit, and is known for its medicinal carps and Saku carp. The ruins of Tatsuoka Castle (historic site) can be found in Taguchi. In April 2005, it was incorporated into Saku City along with Mochizuki Town and Asashina Village in Kitasaku District.
