1830‐95 Albanian literary figure and politician. His real name was Nelko. He played an active role in the national independence movement against the Ottoman Turks, and worked to unify the native language and establish a literary language. He studied in England for about three years from 1856, and then engaged in enlightenment activities among Albanian exiles in various places. In 1879, he translated the entire New Testament into Albanian and also translated parts of the Old Testament.
