Albanian literary figure and politician. His real name was Nelko. He played an active role in the national independence movement against the Ottoman Turks, and worked to unify the native language and establish a literary language. He studied in England for about three years from 1856, and then engaged in enlightenment activities among Albanian exiles in various places. In 1879, he translated the entire New Testament into Albanian and also translated parts of the Old Testament. His works include the Albanian Dictionary (1904), which contains about 12,000 words, and a Grammar in the Tuscan dialect (1882).

アルバニアの文学者，政治家。本名ネルコNelko。オスマン･トルコに対する民族独立運動で活躍し，母国語の統一と文語確立のために努力した。1856年から約3年間イギリスに留学し，その後各地のアルバニア人亡命者の間で啓蒙活動に従事し，79年に新約聖書をアルバニア語に全訳し，旧約聖書も一部訳した。約1万2000語を収めた《アルバニア語辞典》(1904)，トスク方言による《文法》(1882)その他の著作がある。
