Elin Pelin

1877‐1949
Bulgarian short story writer. His real name was Dimitǎr Ivanov Stojanov. Born and raised in a farming village near Sofia, he was influenced by Chekhov and Gorky and wrote many short stories, including "The Weeders" (1903), which realistically depicted the hardships of peasant life, "In the Other World" (1902), which dealt with them in a humorous way, and "Andreshko" (1903), which depicted peasant resistance. He is also famous for his novella "The Geraks" (1911) and the fairy tale "Jan Bibiyan" (1933).

ブルガリアの短編作家。本名ストヤノフDimitǎr Ivanov Stojanov。ソフィア近くの農村に生まれ育ち，チェーホフやゴーリキーの影響を受けて，《草刈り人たち》(1903)など農民の苦しい生活をリアルに描いた短編，《あの世で》(1902)などユーモラスに扱った短編，《アンドレシコ》(1903)など農民の抵抗を描いた短編を多く書いた。中編《ゲラク家》(1911)や童話《ヤン･ビビヤン》(1933)も有名である。
