1877‐1949 Bulgarian short story writer. His real name was Dimitǎr Ivanov Stojanov. Born and raised in a farming village near Sofia, he was influenced by Chekhov and Gorky and wrote many short stories, including "The Weeders" (1903), which realistically depicted the hardships of peasant life, "In the Other World" (1902), which dealt with them in a humorous way, and "Andreshko" (1903), which depicted peasant resistance.
