Maizuru City is located in northern Kyoto Prefecture, occupying the coast of Maizuru Bay and the surrounding mountainous area. Maizuru and Higashi-Maizuru, which were incorporated as cities in 1938, merged in 1943. Nishi-Maizuru (Tanabe), a castle town since the days of the Hosokawa clan, Higashi-Maizuru, which prospered as a military port with its naval base and naval arsenal, and Naka-Maizuru, which connects the two, form the city center. The city is served by the Obama Line, Maizuru Line, Kitakinki Tango Railway, and Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. A high-speed ferry operates between Higashi-Maizuru and Otaru in Hokkaido. Shipbuilding, vehicles, machinery, chemicals, and spinning industries are active, and the development of industrial parks is also progressing. Higashi-Maizuru Port is a commercial and trading port, and was the arrival port for repatriates from the continent after World War II. Nishi-Maizuru Port is a fishing port. The coast is included in the Wakasa Bay Quasi-National Park, and Kanmuri Island is a breeding site for streaked shearwaters (a natural monument). There are ten shrines listed in the Shikinai (Engi-no-Shima) including Okawa Shrine, and on Kanmurijima Island there is Ohitoshima Shrine, which is believed to have been dedicated by the Amabe clan in ancient times. There are many ancient temples, including Enryuji Temple of the Omuro School of Shingon Buddhism, Tane Temple of the Toji School of Shingon Buddhism, and Matsuo Temple of the Daigo School of Shingon Buddhism. Matsuo Temple is the 29th temple of the Thirty-three Kannon Temples of the Western Provinces. Area: 342.12 ^km2 . Population: 88,669 (2010).

京都府北部，舞鶴湾岸と周辺山地を占める市。1938年市制の舞鶴・東舞鶴両市が1943年合併。細川氏以来の城下町であった西舞鶴（田辺），鎮守府や海軍工廠があり軍港として繁栄した東舞鶴，両者を結ぶ中舞鶴が中心市街を形成，小浜線，舞鶴線，北近畿タンゴ鉄道，舞鶴若狭自動車道が通じる。北海道小樽との間に高速フェリーが就航。造船・車両・機械・化学・紡績工業が行われ，工業団地の造成も進む。東舞鶴港は商港，貿易港で，第２次大戦後大陸からの引揚者の到着港であった。西舞鶴港は漁港。海岸は若狭湾国定公園に含まれ，冠(かんむり)島はオオミズナギドリ繁殖地（天然記念物）。式内社が大川神社など10座を数え，冠島には古代に海部(あまべ)氏が奉祀したと推定される老人島(おひとしま)神社がある。真言宗御室派円隆(えんりゅう)寺，真言宗東寺派多禰(たね)寺，真言宗醍醐派松尾(まつのお)寺など古刹が多く，松尾寺は西国三十三所観音霊場の29番札所。342.12km²。８万8669人（2010）。
